Using Intumescent Paints to Protect Structures from Fire
Intumescent paint is most frequently used in architecture to give exposed structural steel elements a beautiful sheen.
A completed surround is needed to conceal and protect the steel member behind the typical spray-applied fireproofing, which creates a thick and spongey covering. The same level of security is offered with intumescent paint, which comes in a covering that resembles a thin coat of paint.

In order to achieve the thickness required by the building code, the paint product is applied to the steel in layers as necessary. To give the steel the correct finish color, pigments are added to a final coat of intumescent paint.
